MAKE ROOM TO ADJUST

When energy or appetite changes, your plan can too.

Keep check-ins, recovery, and your care team in the conversation.

This guide does not assess your fitness to exercise or recommend medication changes. Work with your clinician on a plan appropriate to your health and experience.

Notice what has changed

GLP-1 treatment can affect appetite and can cause gastrointestinal symptoms. The joint advisory from four medical and nutrition organizations emphasizes individual nutrition support and clinical management of side effects.

Before training, notice how you feel compared with your usual baseline. If you feel unwell, don’t use an app recommendation as a reason to push through. Ask your care team about new, persistent, or worsening symptoms. Severe symptoms need prompt medical attention.

Have an alternative to “all or nothing”

If you feel well enough to exercise and your care team has not advised otherwise, consider a shorter version of a familiar session instead of chasing a personal best. Rest is also a valid choice. The aim is to find a routine that fits your circumstances, not to complete every scheduled set at any cost.

Bring food questions to the right person

Adequate nutrition and resistance training both matter during GLP-1 treatment. If reduced appetite makes eating difficult, ask your clinician or registered dietitian for a plan that fits your needs. Avoid treating a universal protein or calorie target as your personal prescription.

  • Am I meeting my individual nutrition and fluid needs?
  • How should I respond if symptoms interfere with eating or activity?
  • Do I need additional support from a dietitian or exercise professional?

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
